Thank you for visiting Brewniverse, your Ark-La-Tex headquarters for premium craft beer, homebrew supplies and specialty gifts.
Introduced in 2012, Brewniverse is a world apart from your average corner liquor store. You won’t find any daiquiri machines in here. Nor do we carry wine or spirits (but we can recommend a few good vendors in the area). This business was built for a single purpose — to celebrate the world’s greatest beverage.
Yes, we have the macro beers that speed through the assembly lines. We even sell a six-pack every now and then without judgment. But honestly, we put them on the bottom shelf — most of our space is reserved for full-flavored craft brews made in small batches with superior ingredients.
Let’s just say we believe in quality over quantity (not that we are against quantity either).
Your proprietor, Nathan Slaughter, is a Shreveport native and C.E. Byrd graduate who initially worked as a financial advisor for Morgan Keegan before realizing that helping people select the right beer is much more rewarding than helping them achieve financial independence. He still works as an investment analyst and manages two stock advisory newsletter portfolios — but that’s just to pay the bills.
Julie Slaughter, a proud graduate of Louisiana Tech, is a medical technologist by trade. When she’s not here at the store, you’ll find her in the laboratory at LifeShare Blood Center. And if she’s not there, then she’s probably shuffling the kids to karate practice, cub scout trips, or baseball games.
We are often asked what motivated us to open Brewniverse. Simple. We love beer. And the more we traveled to craft beer Meccas like Denver, Portland and Asheville, the more obvious it became that the beer selection in Shreveport/Bossier was sorely lacking. Discriminating beer fans in North Louisiana have been largely deprived of the craft beer revolution that has swept through neighboring states and put outstanding beer tantalizingly close, yet still out of reach.
If you’ve ever driven to Texas for Dogfish Head Midas Touch or Arkansas for Boulevard Double-Wide IPA, then you know what I’m talking about
After years of waiting, I finally decided to remedy this injustice myself. My initial plan was to open a brewpub. But sadly, I lacked both the capital and the brewing skills to pull off something on that scale. So we did the next best thing: create a unique retail environment where beer lovers can find their favorite beers or assemble the tools and ingredients to create their own.
As I said, this is not your average grab-and-go package beer store. We specialize in microbrews and imports, along with homebrew supplies, glassware, and home bar décor. Whether you’re just looking for something cold and domestic for the big game or want to browse, congregate and exchange photographic evidence of your latest beer conquests, we invite you to visit us here at Brewniverse.
